Baby Crib Mattresses
You can buy a Sealy posturepedic mattress for a baby crib. You can also buy a cheap slab of foam cut to size which might do the job but unless you are destitute, why risk your baby’s skeletal development? Why also risk a good night’s sleep for you and for baby?
Baby crib mattresses do come in varying sizes although a standard size is 27.25” wide by 51.625” long. Always check that a mattress comes with the crib you have chosen, otherwise buy the mattress at the same time. This will make it easier to ensure you don’t have to hunt around looking for a suitable mattress.
If the crib you have chosen is intended to also sleep the child as he or she grows into a toddler, then good quality mattress selection is critical. Be aware those ‘monkeys’ will start jumping on the bed and while the sides will stop ‘monkey’ from hitting his head as the song says, the mattress won’t last too long if it isn’t of decent quality.
If the style chosen is a sleigh bed, or a cradle type or some other design of cot, the mattress is very important. A new, clean mattress should be provided for baby, even if the crib being used is a family heirloom. We have friends who have a Baby Graco from Simmons Furniture that is now on its sixth baby but all four girls and both boys have enjoyed their own mattress and bedding.
Baby will spend up to 16 hours every day in the crib, so the mattress they lie upon is crucial.
